About Mercado Bitcoin
Mercado Bitcoin is a Brazilian digital asset platform offering BRL-denominated spot trading, staking and the MB Pay payment account, with tokenisation as its defining line rather than a side product. Its tokenised offerings are issued under CVM Resolution 88, packaging receivables, judicial assets, agricultural and credit assets into units subscribed inside the app, with registry, custody and settlement split between the platform and partners and client funds segregated and externally audited; MB Pay holds a central bank payment institution licence and supports instant Pix transfers, with fiat rails and the trading account sharing one identity system.
The trade-off is that revenue is tied to Brazilian rates and regulatory pace, secondary liquidity in tokenised products depends on the platform's own market making, and workouts on credit assets take time; base-tier retail fees run well above global exchanges. From February 2026 it issued more than $20 million of tokenised private credit on Rootstock.
Mercado Bitcoin, founded in 2013, has evolved from Brazil's largest crypto exchange into a diversified financial platform. Key long-term milestones include:
In 2020, obtaining CVM authorization to operate as a securities distributor, enabling regulated tokenized asset offerings.
In 2024, launching MBRL, a Brazilian real-pegged stablecoin on the TRON blockchain, expanding its payment and settlement infrastructure.
In 2025, partnering with Polygon Labs to issue over $200 million in tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) in Latin America, positioning MB as a regional leader in RWA tokenization.
These steps reflect a strategic shift from pure trading toward a 'financial super app' model, with blockchain technology operating behind the scenes. The company now targets over $560 million in tokenized credit issuance by end of 2025, with RWAs comprising roughly 20% of assets under custody.
On July 7, 2026, Tether injected $20 million (about R$100 million) into holding company 2TM to back Mercado Bitcoin's expansion in tokenisation, payments and credit; the company reports 4.5 million users, more than R$2 billion in tokenised assets issued, over 10 licences across Brazil and Europe, and cumulative trading volume above R$155 billion.
In the first quarter of 2026 Mercado Bitcoin distributed R$284 million of tokenised assets across 99 offerings, up 15% year on year, taking 76% of Brazil's retail tokenisation market against roughly R$410 million for the whole market. CEO Roberto Dagnoni ruled out a near-term Brazilian listing and pointed to the US CLARITY Act as a precondition for a possible US listing. Future strategy and roadmap: direct the capital into payments infrastructure, retail and institutional tokenised products, credit and on-chain capital markets, and continue international expansion.
Reinaldo Rabelo, CEO (MB Euro). He holds a law degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a tax-law specialization, and was a statutory director at B3, Brazil's exchange. He now leads Mercado Bitcoin and its digital-bank direction.
